HWT Roman Extended Fatface™ Font Download

HWT Roman Extended Fatface™

The design of the first “Fat Face” is credited to Robert Thorne just after 1800 in England. It is considered to be the first type style designed specifically for display or jobbing, rather than for book work.

The first instance of Fat Face in wood type is found in the first wood type specimen book ever produced: Darius Wells, Letter Cutter 1828. This style was produced by all early wood type manufacturers.

The style is derived from the high contrast, thick and thin Modern style of Bodoni and Didot developed only decades previously. The extended variation makes the face even more of a display type and not at all suitable for text.

This type of display type was used to compete with the new Lithographic process which allowed for the development of the poster as an artform unto itself.

This new digitization by Jim Lyles most closely follows the Wm Page cut.

The crisp outlines hold up at the largest point sizes you can imagine. This font contains a full CE character set.

The three Mixtra family branches are Roman, Sansserif and Slabserif, each with a full set of weights. The Roman also has a Small Caps font.

Combining the three family members is a good starting point for creating a coherent typographical design. Mixtra works well in magazines and all sorts of print in need of a strong visual identity.

“Mixtra is a multiface”, says Bo Berndal. “With or without serifs, or with powerful slabserifs, you can pick the version that best suits the design and printing technique you have chosen.”

English Engravers Roman Font Download

English Engravers Roman

English Engravers Roman is inspired by the beauty and eccentric detailing of British stone carved lettering. After observing many beautiful inscriptions around London and southern England, Robbie Smith decided to create a font family in homage to this rich heritage.

English Engravers Roman features a set of beautifully balanced uppercase Roman, and a characterful lowercase alphabet with some endearing quirks. More…

Included in the each font are two forms of lowercase ‘q’, one very similar to an uppercase ‘Q’ with a tail, and a traditional ‘q’.

Each font in the family features a comprehensive character set with many ligatures, added to enhance letter spacing. The fonts all feature an additional set of old style numerals. Many extra characters and ligatures can be accessed via the ‘insert glyph’ functions in graphic design software.
