A revival of one of the popular wooden type fonts of the 19th century; suitable for text.
French Clarendon was an extremely popular wood type font. Characters are heavy and condensed with bracketed serifs, which measure approximately 1/4 to 1/3 the height of the letter. Dozens of decorative wood type designs have been created based on French Clarendon.
It was marketed as a wood letter by William H. Page & Company in 1865.
Another variation of the many Clarendons created in the 19th century
and there are probably more out there.
Valdes Clarendon is a marker-drawn adaptation of a classic design developed in collaboration with Columbia, SC-based illustrator and designer Marius Valdes and is derived from his poster lettering style.
The design has a fun and casual feel and is appropriate in a variety of settings, from posters to logos.
Valdes Clarendon works well when paired with hand-drawn illustrations. The font includes a stylistic set of OpenType alternate characters with filled in counters.
